ENTROTOPIA 1.0

Gallery Rantakasarmi, Suomenlinna, Helsinki
25 August – 15 September 2019

Curators: Ville Laaksonen & Dominika Chrzanová

Project description:

Entrotopia 1.0 marked the first phase of an international art exchange project developed in collaboration between Publikum.sk (Slovakia), the Association of Helsinki Artists (HTS), and curators Ville Laaksonen and Dominika Chrzanová.

The project sought to connect contemporary Slovak and Finnish art through reciprocal exhibitions, fostering artistic dialogue and cultural exchange. Its focus lay in exploring the similarities and contrasts between national identities, artistic methods, and worldviews.

The shared theme — Entrotopia — emerged from the fusion of utopia, dystopia, and entropy: three concepts representing transformation, decay, and imagined futures. The project invited artists to respond to this hybrid notion of instability, creating a collective vision of a world in flux.

The exhibition presented works by six Slovak artists, offering a cross-section of contemporary Slovak visual culture within the Finnish context.
